Hey everyone,
I hope you enjoyed the first Zappacast episode last week. It was a lot of fun to record despite the 300 different takes I did to get something I was remotely satisfied with. I might have to release a blooper reel someday.
As always, there is a ton of music news to cover this week, so without further adieu…

:: ZAPPA’S RECOMMENDATIONS
+ Clayton Purdom, writing for Rolling Stone, has a great review of the new Gorillaz album Cracker Island.
+ My friend, Keith Jopling runs a brilliant podcast/website The Art of Longevity where he just published a new white paper: “Crossing The Rubicon: Creative and Commercial Longevity in the Music Business” in which he takes a look at 25 different artist case studies using data and insights from interviews with those artists to literally map the highs and lows of their careers. (Artists include Suede, Norah Jones, KT Tunstall, Tears for Fears, Gary Numan, Los Lobos, Death Cab For Cutie, Calexico, Interpol, Spoon, and many more.) It’s a fascinating look at real-world data illustrating the longevity of these accomplished artists.
+ David Letterman landed the best possible tour guides for his first visit to Dublin. Captured in an upcoming documentary special, titled Bono & The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming, with Dave Letterman, the interview maestro gets to see the view of the city from U2’s Bono and the Edge – and what better place to dig into the songs they’ve written over the course of decades.
