Zappagram 149: Lizzie Weber's haunting Soundgarden cover, The Kills & QOTSA melted my face off, Jeff Buckley documentary coming soon, RIP to legends Brian Wilson and Sly Stone, and so much more...
We will ALWAYS be here to wsupport you & your endeavors my friend! No matter how long a wait, your musings are worthy of whatever wait time is necessary!
This Zappagram has the sad job of having to report the deaths of two of music's great genius artists.
Brian Wilson & Sly Stone were pioneers & innovators in their respective genres of music!
Both men & their music will be remembered for a long time.
They definitely influenced many music artists over the years.
I can't thank you enough for your endless support, my friend. This was a sad issue, having to cover the passing of both of these legends, and I didn't have time to write as much as I'd have liked about either of them. Both are deserving of their own features, as their contributions to music and the world are enormous.
“Fortunately for Eddie and the band, and despite having songs titled “Oceans” and “Deep” and “Wreckage,” they also have a song titled “Why Go,” and so they remain very much “Alive.” Talk about dodging a Titanic-sized disaster.”
I have to admit I am more than slightly confused about Carol Kaye's position on "The Wrecking Crew" and her RnR Hall induction. Is it the word "wrecking" that she's offended by? It's just a word, Carol. Is it because she doesn't want to be singled out when there were 300-400 other people doing what she was doing? That's fair. But you could accept the nomination in person and recite a "Steve Miller Speech" and blow them away by - I don't know - naming all 400 names of the "Studio Musicians" from your time doing it, maybe? Or at least letting everyone know in a clear and concise way what your thoughts are on "The Wrecking Crew."
It's hard for me to understand as well, Brad. To me, it feels like such a huge honor to be recognized as part of such esteemed company, but I guess that, for her, she was there putting in the work, so she doesn't need the validation that comes from being...singled out or lumped into a "crew"? Again, I don't get it, but I respect it, nonetheless!
What a heartbreaker for this old Boomer--losing Brian Wilson AND Sly!! I grew up listening to their music. While I was more a fan of Sly than Brian (he was more my sister Deb's vibe), I agree that both men were so important to music composition and presentation than many people realize. They each had a HUGE impact. The complexity of Brian's harmonies and the tenderness of his lyrics, the unbelievable funk and soul of Sly was one thing--but the thumpa thumpa of his bass like a drum, and people going "WHAT is that SOUND?!" And then everyone repeated it. And of course, Cynthia and Jerry, "All of you squares, go home..." LOL Yeah, I remember that...
Yes, Eileen! Brian Wilson and Sly Stone were truly musical giants. I mourn their loss but celebrate their enormous contribution to music and the world. Just thinking about how many people's lives have been touched by their songs is incredible! I fear I'll be reporting on the passing of many more legends in the coming years as many of them are getting up there in age. 🙁

They will be missed!

How fucking clever was this?
“Fortunately for Eddie and the band, and despite having songs titled “Oceans” and “Deep” and “Wreckage,” they also have a song titled “Why Go,” and so they remain very much “Alive.” Talk about dodging a Titanic-sized disaster.”
I try to be clever whenever possible. Those song titles were too perfect not to mention. 😉
“Why Go” was a gift to you. 🤣
Welcome back, Chris! Glad you got to rock out at the gig!
Thanks, buddy! It was one helluva show. If that's the only one I see this year, I'm good.
Great stuff - as always!
Thanks, Bryan! 🙌🏻

No kidding—which, of course, reminds me how old the hubs and I are…
