Good to have you back here. Ghost is great but Substack is just seemed and the community is thriving.

Thanks so much, buddy. I agree. Substack offers so much more in the way of community that there’s just nowhere else like it. It’s like they say: there’s no place like home. I couldn’t be happier to be back!

Welcome Back! And thanks for the shout. I dig the indie music journalism community on Substack.

Thanks, buddy! It's so good to be back. There really is no other music community like this anywhere else. It's good to be home.

Welcome back, Chris - good to have you back.

I've written more than once that the music writing on Substack makes here the best publication going these days about music - so much good stuff being written here and honoured to be among those you cite in today's edition of Zappagram - thank you!

Thanks so much, my friend. I found that, like so many times in life, you don’t know how great a place is until you leave for a while then return to appreciate it even more than you did before. I’m happy and honored to be back and amongst such good company.

Aw thanks, Gabbie! Funny thing: you’re the first music friend I have on Substack who I first discovered on TikTok! Happy to follow and recommend you. :)

I knew there had to be a little overlap!

I do find there’s a vibrant music community over on TikTok, but to my knowledge, I don’t think there are many TikTok people crossing over to Substack…at least not that I’ve found. It’s a little surprising there isn’t more overlap than there seems to be.

Substack made a big push when the first threats of a ban happened. They reached out to a bunch of us personally, and people like Patrick Hicks (you might follow him, he's a much bigger deal than me, and I'm annoyed I can't tag him in a comment) were invited into a "creators studio" to ease the transition: https://read.substack.com/p/substack-creator-studio-fellows

Personally I have no interest in making videos here. I frankly don't actually have any interest in making videos full stop, and none of my TikToks have had more than a couple hundred views for about 6 months or so now. I'll be happy to say goodbye to it. I'm thrilled to finally get back into writing, which I find much more fulfilling personally.

I've quite literally never been called a music journalist before, but it's incredibly validating!

I saw that Substack is now introducing video into the platform and, I have to admit, my first reaction was, "Oh no." I hate being on camera which is why I'm one of those TikTokers who only ever posted photo posts to promote my writing elsewhere. I'm a writer, not an on-screen personality kinda guy. I even hate FaceTime calls with friends or Zoom meetings. No thank you.

However, I do enjoy getting lost in the scroll over on TikTok sometimes. My god, what a time suck that can be. But, like Bertrand Russell said: time you enjoy wasting isn't wasted time. I know I always enjoy your videos when my FYP feeds them to me. I'm thrilled to find you over here too. As I'm making a huge effort to pour myself into my work here, I look forward to reading your work regularly and to sharing good music. :)

Thank you for the shoutout and for celebrating truly indie music journalism. My goal is to succeed where traditional media has failed in giving women equal treatment and coverage.

And shame on the “man” for coming down so hard on Maren Morris. Girl’s got grit.

Likewise, thank you for what you’re doing here, Thea. I’m a huge supporter of your mission and I believe in the work you’re doing. Also, 100% agree that Maren Morris is a total badass. I admire how she follows her heart despite the attacks she’s suffered over the last few years. Standing up to Nashville’s establishment takes true grit!

Thank you, Matt! I’m so happy to be back! I’ve got a lot of catching up to do, including your recent post about yacht rock! I am a huge yacht rock guy!

Dude, yes! I am so ready for fall! It’s my favorite season and I’m thinking about some seasonally appropriate playlists to accompany the end of summer and start of fall. Midlake’s album The Trials of Van Occupanther is my go to album for the start of fall. That album just feels like autumn to me. Are you familiar with it?

You know I follow you wherever you go Chris! My son & I have been shouting out to Zappagram on our podcast in every episode! Zander wondered if you were back on SubStack yet! We will be updating our listeners to the happy news that you are indeed back on SubStack! Will you be continuing your practice of writing of other things such as politics, current events & opinions like you did on the Ghost version of Zappagram? Or will you begin again your Diatribes newsletter on SubStack?

I am happy to see that more Comments are being made & that means more people reading Zappagram!

I appreciate you so much, my friend. And I can't tell you how much your consistent support means to me. I'm behind on listening to the podcast, so I didn't know you'd been shouting me out, but thank you a million times over for that too. You're the best friend a guy could have and I'm so glad to call you my friend.

I'm so happy to be back here on Substack. The welcome back I've gotten from friends, new and old alike, has been nothing short of totally awesome and heartwarming. So much kindness and goodwill given to me over the last few days. I'm blown away.

I'm probably going to keep writing about other things in addition to music, but I might not send those out as emails. I might just include links to those pieces in the one email I send out each week. I don't know. I haven't decided yet. I don't want to turn people off with too many emails each week, and I don't want to alienate readers who want to read the music content and don't care about the other stuff...but I also don't want to start a second Substack and manage that either.

I'm just going to play it by ear at this point!
