Listen now (38 min) | Hey folks, This has been a helluva week for music news and new music releases! Butch Bastard’s new album Las Vegas Salvation dropped on Friday and even though it’s only May, I can already tell that this will be my Album of the Year. If I’ve ever strongly endorsed an artist or an album before, and you’ve listened and dug it, then please go
Always a treasure trove of musical gifts, I was stopped in my tracks by the article you mention about how 50 percent of vinyl buyers don’t have a turntable. That leads me to believe they are being purchased as an investment or like art. I am not sure how to feel about this, as a person who has never not had a turntable. Maybe they are playing digital FLAC files instead? It would be very sad if these albums are being bought and then low bit rate MP3s are being played. Though, I can’t deny I’ve done the same for some of my old vinyl. Especially when listening away from home.
Isn’t that interesting? I would play my albums if I had a turntable, but it’s an investment I just cannot make right now. I wonder how many people are in the same boat, perhaps buying albums at shows, etc. in the hopes that someday they will own a turntable. I don’t personally know anyone who collects vinyl who doesn’t also have a way to play it (other than myself.)

My money's on your theory that they're playing the downloads that come with them for newer records. Zero idea about what they're doing with older music.
I also think a lot of people are snapping up copies of "hot" records and trying to resell them. It's anecdotal, but my local shop was selling Pearl Jam's "Give Way" RSD day release for $45. On a FB I saw a guy selling copies. I offered him $50 (+ S&H). He basically told me to pound sand. My guess is he doesn't have a turntable.
This is a great tip, Chris. I've never heard of this guy, but am listening to it now and loving it. He reminds of Father John Misty, but I think I like him even more. As you know, I am champion of underdog songwriters like this. I have a feeling I will be recommending this far and wide.
Hey Matt, I’m so glad you’re digging it! Funny enough, he’s friends with Father John Misty and on tour with him as we speak! Also, FJM played drums on his first album. I definitely can’t get enough of Las Vegas Salvation, and I’m thrilled that you’re enjoying it too. Thanks for letting me know!
The poll don’t lie - Chris was best with Soundgarden and none of the other projects come close to their work. Enjoyed ‘Euphoria Morning’ back in the day but it’s been probably 15 years since I’ve listened. Wonder if it holds up!

I forgot to tell you that I’m going to have him on the podcast soon too which I am incredibly excited about!

Getting on this Butch Bastard record now!
Thanks, Kiley! I’d rank Chris’s bands in the order I listed in the poll, I think. So glad you’re checking out Butch Bastard! Hope you dig it!
Thanks for the feature, Chris!
My pleasure, Chris! I’m a big fan of your work and want to share it with as many others as possible.
